Program Summary: Illuminate’s mission is to combat illiteracy and encourage entrepreneurship in inner city youth ages 13-18. Youth refine their English, writing and speech skills through poetry and performance. Learn entrepreneurship skills by creating a product (via audio production and chapbook making); as well as learn how to market the products and their service (performance). At the end of an 8 week workshop youth will have the opportunity to compete in a poetry slam for a computer, printer and microphone and become a contract performer for the program.
The program is a part of the Detroit Public Library’s Summer Reading Program 2013.
